Research
I study the literature of the late medieval and early modern periods through a book historical lens. My recent book, Difficult Pasts: Post-Reformation Memory and the Medieval Romance (2023, Manchester University Press), combines book history, reception history, and theories of cultural memory and historiography to explore how post-Reformation audiences used medieval literary texts to construct their own national and religious identities. I conclude that the romance book became an object with which readers could both time travel to the past and meditate on their relationship with that past.
Teaching
I have experience teaching a wide variety of college-level courses. At Flagler, I teach courses on medieval and early modern literature, as well as academic writing and other topics. I am also an assistant director of Flagler’s Honors Program. Before Flagler, I taught literature and writing courses at Georgia Tech, the University of Notre Dame's London Global Gateway, and at Notre Dame's South Bend campus. My students have ranged from first-years to seniors, and they are pursuing a variety of majors and interests. Additionally, I volunteer as an ESL tutor at Learn to Read of St Johns County. I have also led a Shakespeare reading group at the St Johns Youth Academy and have also served as a volunteer writing tutor for Common Good Atlanta.
